Smart Buys. Watch for companies and products like Tom's shoes or the (Red) campaign that help others through their profits. Raise awareness through wearing your heart on your sleeve.
Volunteer. Find a local Children's home you can volunteer at. Check with foster care services to see how you can help the kids through things like babysitting or after school programs.
Talk. Tell people about orphans, about the global crisis. But also remember to tell how they can help bring solution.
Send. Often overseas orphanages need things that are difficult to find in their area that are more common here. Check and see if you can help by sending formula, bottles, toys. Check with your church or group of friends about donating clothes and sharing the costs of shipping.
Support. Maybe you're not able to go volunteer in an orphanage at this point in your life but have a heart for it. Help someone else get there. Host a yardsale and donate the proceeds to an organization that works directly with orphans. Such as Show Hope (
www.showhope.org) or Compassion International (
www.compassion.com)
Adoption. Most young people can't adopt, but you can still tell other people about it. Study up on adoption, talk to people who have and then tell others. Many people consider adoption but don't because the cost is too great or they are afraid to take in a child not physically their own. Help by spreading the word about the beauty of adoption and the aid for adopting families. Also see what you can do for the families who have already adopted. It's a big adjustment and sometimes it's nice for the parents to be able to go out or spend time with a connect group, babysitting is a great way to help out.
Go. Go visit the orphaned. Seeing them face to face, holding them and loving on the kids is such a great thing for everyone involved. You can make a difference in the life of a child just by being a friend to them and showing them they are valuable and most importantly, lovable. Take a short trip or go spend a month or two, maybe more.
